Road trip!
October 2016
Boy! We’ve crammed in a lot of trips this year.
A long drive from home (around 7 hours), stopping briefly at Lakes Entrance.
Who doesn’t love sitting on a bench overlooking the water, eating battered fish and chips out of a cardboard box wrapped in butcher’s paper! Lots of lemon and salt – a favourite food for Aussies. It was delicious.

Fishing trawlers – everywhere.

View over Lakes Entrance on the way south. Oh, that cheeky smile 🙂

This was going to be a test of my resilience to the cold. Jeff warned that there could be all four seasons in one day at Phillip Island, from t-shirt weather to freezing. He was right. We were well prepared.

Phillip Island had experienced rain for a few days prior so the walk from the carpark (a nearby farmer’s paddock actually) was slippery and at times our feet disappeared up to our ankles in the mud. I watched others slipping and sliding but my fascination was for the young women who clearly had not received the weather memo, opting for summer outfits and sandals designed to show off their assets to the testosterone filled crowd.
Oh dear. It was going to be a long, cold day for some.
The stunning but bleak edge of Bass Straight.

But Sunday for the main race was beautiful – still cold but the sun was out.

There was no way I was going to get cold. I hate the cold! Look at this – snug as a bug with prime position right on the fence at the end of the straight.

This was just prior to the surprising arrival of the the Australian Air Force F18 – a sonic boom explosion just over my head. I nearly fell off my chair. Jeff had seen it coming and chose not to warn me.
Hilarious, Jeff……
Best weekend 🙂
