We left most of our gear and car at the Gostilna in Radovljica, heading to Ljubljana. Unfortunately, the train track was undergoing maintenance so we had to bus it.
Wow! Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and what a hipster city it is. Walking from the bus depot into the city centre, we picked a street cafe and, boy, our Macchiattos were good. It was an omen – so many cool experiences in this interesting place.
A slightly rainy day but that didn’t dampen our enthusiasm.

Being a Saturday, we headed to the fresh food market. I simply love checking out the herbs.

Loved the fresh pizzas at the market – a simple but delicious wholemeal base with shallots, capsicum and other green veggies, on a creamy cheese base.

Another accordion spotting experience, this time the Hari Krishnas touting for recruits through the fruit & veggie section.

Dinner in the Old Town area, still a little damp. You have to watch the cobble stones – can be a little slippery.

Dinner:
- Veal with Truffle and Potato (you can guess who had that)
- Istrian Pasta with Porcini Mushrooms and Asparagus
It was in Ljubljana that I had my very first Aperol Spritz, and loved it 🙂

We stayed at Best Western Hotel a block from the Three Bridges – perfect location. It had a great view of Ljubljana Castle from our room – a night view.

Sunday morning was clear. Coffee time.

A walking historical tour was the highlight of our visit to Ljubljana. The young man was engaging and gave us a fascinating insight to the history of not only the city but the country of Slovenia. After the tour found us taking a not so easy stroll up the hill to see the castle. It stands on Castle Hill above the town and the walk up through the Old Town to the top involved A LOT of stairs. Phew!
The Castle was a little bit touristy for us, but fascinating as it depicted life in a castle.
